From the leafy stretches of Floyd Avenue to the stately bounds of Monument, these streets represent a pinnacle of residential planning and architectural detail that modern development has struggled to replicate.
Our approach is one of careful curation. We don’t just see square footage; we see the weight of history in a hand-carved mantle or the specific light of a south-facing stained glass window. The Fan District, Richmond
A Victorian rowhouse with its slate dome and original brickwork intact on the street — reimagined inside without losing what made it belong on Floyd Avenue in the first place. Original heart pine floors, a polished granite fireplace surround, and a stained glass kitchen window preserved alongside fully modernized systems and finishes.

The Fan
Primary market
Richmond's largest intact Victorian district. Queen Anne towers, Italianate brackets, and rowhouses built with a level of craft no modern budget replicates.
Museum District
PRIMARY MARKET
Quieter, more settled character alongside the Fan's development wave. Colonial Revival and Tudor homes near the VMFA.
Byrd Park

Rob Russell
Founder & Principal
Rob didn't come to this work from a distance. He came to it the way you come to something you love — close up, sleeves rolled, from the first swing of a demo hammer to the last coat of paint. He is obsessed with the trades, with the history, with the architectural detail that most people walk past without seeing. He knows what heart pine sounds like under a floor sander. He knows the difference between a bracket that was made by hand and one that was milled yesterday. He has stood inside rooms that haven't been touched in eighty years and felt, immediately and without question, what they were meant to be.
That obsession is what The Richmond Standard is built on. The discipline around it comes from nearly two decades of senior commercial finance and strategy at McKesson, Danone, BowlMor AMF, and Electrolux — and from five years in the U.S. Army as an Infantry and Artillery Soldier, including 13 months of combat operations in Iraq, where he was named Soldier of the Year from a field of 15,000. He knows how to hold a standard when the easier path is right there. He's been doing it his whole life.
He lives in these neighborhoods. He walks these avenues. He is restoring them because he genuinely loves them — the architecture, the craftsmanship, the history in the walls — and because he believes that work done the right way, at the level these homes have always deserved, is work that lasts for centuries. That's the only way he knows how to do it.
